Tunnel History
Although little known, the oldest railway tunnel in Canada actually exists under the downtown core of Brockville, Ontario, the tranquil community located on the shores of the St Lawrence River at the eastern edge of the Thousand Islands
Tunnel Vision
It is sometimes said that “a tunnel is not a tunnel, unless you can go through it”. And it is the goal of the City’s tunnel advisory committee to again see the oldest railway tunnel in Canada open for traffic.
Railway Town
Railway mania gripped Canada in the 1850s so strongly that the citizens of the town of Brockville decided that they must have a railway. It’s now or never! If we allow the present opportunity to pass, we may as well bid it long farewell to our prosperity; but if embraced, as it should be, a bright and glorious future lies before us.

Tunnel Project Gets $300K
